M This is said when a brother succeeds a deceased father as heir

L Two good days, do not follow each other
M Joy and happiness are not permanent: they are often interrupted by unexpected sorrow and suffering
Ennyanja y'omukopi, ebeera ku lusebenju
L The lake of a commoner ( or poor person) is by his house
M A poor person cannot afford to buy fish, so he depends on the vegetables that he cultivates in his backyard
Enyongereza teba ntono; luwandagirize ku nnyanja
L An increment is never too small, like a drizzle on a lake
M One should never underestimate the significance of small increments. Even though the impact of a drizzle may not be visible, it has a significant effect on the lake
Ennyumba eteriimu mukyala, abaana tebakutta
L A house which lack a wife, has perpetually unsatisfied children
M Food preparation for a child requires a woman's touch because she has the skills and she is more conversant with the nutritional requirements of children
Ensawo y'omukulu, tebulamu zziika
L The bag of an old person, is never depleted of money.
M Because of the many responsibilities old people bear, they always reserve some money for emergencies, even when they appear to be penniless
Ensi egula mirambo, nga tebasse wuwo
L 'A country is bought with dead bodies' - if a person close to you has not be killed.
M People fought many battles to defend both their kingdom and their country. Although there was a risk of dying in battle, the purpose for going to war had to be achieved at all costs, though it was very painful when a close person was killed in the process
Ensimbi emu kanyonyi, bw'otakatega tokakwasa
L One coin( cowrie shell) is like a bird : if you do not trap it, you will not get it
M One has to devise ways of making money, no matter how insignificant this may be
Ensisinkano teba yalumu; enkejje amazzi egaleka mu nnyanja egasanga mu luwombo
L The possibility of meeting each other is never once and for all, an enkejje leaves the water behind in the lake, but finds it later in the luwombo when it gets cooked
M Somebody in a position to help may deny to give you any assistance, without realizing that he may find himself in similar situation when you too could decline to give him any help
Ensisinkano teba yalumu; envunyu ogiriira mu katiko ekusanga mu ttaka
L The possibility of meeting each other is never once-and-for-all: you may eat a maggot in a mushroom, but it will find you later in the ground - when you are buried - and eat you too

L The fly which loves you will land onto your sore
M Someone who loves you will search for you relentlessly until he finds you
Enswa bw'ekyuusa amaaso, nga nawe okyuusa envubo.
L If the anthill moves its eyes, one should change the position of trapping hole(envubo), so that he traps the white ants emerging from the hill
M One should not be too rigid or conservative : it is important to be flexible, especially so because circumstances change all the time

L A person who never express appreciation, fails to find anyone willing to give him anything

Ente etali yiyo, togikubira kisibo
L A cow which does not belong to you, does not get to have a kraal built for it
M If a key decision is not yours to make, you should wait until the right party has made a decision,rather that expecting your time and resources in a wrong direction.(Because the owner gets to choose its next destination, one should not overwork for that cow)
Ennyonyi enkulu, zeziyigiriza ento okubuuka
L Adult birds, teach the young ones how to fly
M Young people acquire the basic skills of life from adults
Enzaala mbi, ekira obugumba
L A difficult delivery, is better than remaining barren

L A good name is more precious than money

L A cow which fights at an in-laws place, breaks a horn
M Eagerness to show off, or possessing an uncontrollable temper, can land one into serious problems
Etewulira mukama waayo, ebiika masumba.
L A hen which never obeys its master, lays unfertilized eggs
M Obedience to the master is essential - if one wants to progress in life
