Kibaale is the title of the special counselor and advisor of the Kabaka (King) of Buganda. He is responsible for handling the kings marriage issues and and complaints by him against his wives or by his wives against him. Traditionally, the Kibaale is the only person that can demand an explanation from the Kabaka of Buganda in case there is any complaint against him (by either his wife or chief).
The Kibaale is also the Kabaka’s special custodian.
The Kibaale is a man from the Mpeewo clan and he is appointed by the Kiggya (Chief of the Mpeewo Clan) from the exceptionally clever and disciplined men of the Mpeewo clan.
This office was created during the reign of King Mutebi I (1674-1680) mainly to handle home affairs of the King and his wives.
